Our dental hygienist works with you and your dentist to prevent and treat gum disease. At your hygiene appointment plaque will be professionally removed and your hygienist will advise you on how to prevent tooth decay which could eventually lead to tooth loss.
At your hygiene appointment the hygienist will carry out an initial assessment of your oral hygiene. After this, your teeth will be scaled to remove plaque or tartar build-up in hard-to-reach areas and where required. A clean and polish will be carried out to remove any superficial stains from your teeth.
At the end of your appointment, the hygienist will offer advice specific to you on how to maintain good dental health and show you different techniques which you can use at home. Dental brushing aids will be recommended for your individual needs. Your hygienist will also recommend how often to visit us for teeth and gum cleaning.
If you have gum disease, your hygienist will work alongside your dentist to ensure that we try to stabilise this as soon as possible. Where necessary, we can refer you to a gum specialist.
